Is there a specific dress code or clothing recommendation for visiting a cat cafe?

Question: Is there a specific dress code or clothing recommendation for visiting a cat cafe?

Most cat cafes do not enforce a strict dress code, but your clothing choices directly affect your comfort and safety around the cats. Dressing appropriately protects your skin from accidental scratches and keeps your favorite clothes free from damage and fur.

Choose the Right Fabrics

Delicate knits, silk, and loose weaves snag easily on claws, which can instantly ruin fine garments. Stick to tightly woven, durable materials like denim, twill, or heavy cotton. These fabrics act as a barrier to shield your skin when an affectionate lap cat kneads its paws, keeping you comfortable throughout your visit.

Practical Clothing Tips

• Wear clean socks: Most cafes require you to remove your outdoor shoes at the door to maintain floor hygiene for resident pets. Bring a clean, comfortable pair of socks with good traction.
• Skip dangling accessories: Avoid long necklaces, tassels, fringe, or hoodie strings. Curious cats view dangling items as toys and will swat or pounce at them.
• Pick neutral, washable layers: Jet black and bright white fabrics highlight shed fur immediately. Mid-tone heather gray, khaki, or patterned cotton camouflages stray hair well until you can use a lint roller.
• Cover your legs: Wear full-length pants instead of shorts or skirts. Direct skin contact with claws can cause scratches, especially if a startled cat jumps unexpectedly from your lap.

Dress in comfortable, easily washable clothes so you can focus entirely on enjoying your time with the cats.
